The ANU Korea Update is the University’s flagship annual conference on Korea.

We are lucky enough to have esteemed economist Ruediger Frank deliver the opening keynote, and renowned cultural geographer Judy Han to deliver the closing keynote.

Spread across two days, the 2022 Korea Update is a public event bringing together key representatives from the academic and policymaking communities to discuss current socio-cultural, political, diplomatic and security issues related to the Korean peninsula.

Join us in-person (or online) for the opening session on Monday 21 Nov, in the Molonglo Theatre in the JG Crawford Building on the ANU campus in Canberra. We will be kicking off with light refreshments at 4pm, a Welcome from the Korean Ambassador and the ANU Vice-Chancellor at 4.30pm, followed by the Opening Keynote - North Korea after Ukraine. presented by Professor Ruediger Frank.

On Day two - Tuesday 22 Nov - our program is cram packed with engaging panel disussions covering Korea’s relations with the world, Global North Korea, Politics in South Korea, Economy, and Culture.

We will wrap up the conference with a thought provoking Closing Keynote from renowned cultural geographer Judy Han, on ‘Queer Throughlines: Activist Lines and Uneven Geometries in South Korea and Diaspora.’

IN-PERSON ATTENDANCE

We would love for you to join us in person, in the Molonglo Theatre on the ANU Campus, from 4-7pm on the Monday 21 Nov, and from 9-6pm on Tuesday 22 Nov.

After a fully virtual event last year, we’re really looking forward to seeing anyone with an interest in Korea in-person at the Update this year.

But if you can’t make it to Canberra, this year’s Korea Update is introducing a hybrid format, so you can also attend online.
