PROJECTSResearch on Korea at Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis (CAMA), College of Business and Economics There are a number of projects on the Korean economy currently being carried out in the Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis in the ANU College of Business and Economics. In recent years, research in the Multi-country Models and Methods program has focused on modeling the Korea economy at the macroeconomic and sectoral level. This modeling has been used to measure the impact of trade agreements between Korea and key trading partners. Research on the Asian financial crisis and financial contagion with a focus on Korea is also undertaken. A new project on energy and climate issues in Korea is the focus of Professor Warwick McKibbin and Visiting Professor Jihoon Lee from Chungnam National University together with a PhD student Ms Hyejin Park. In addition a new research project on quantifying the impact of Korean Unification will be undertaken over the coming year. MacArthur Foundation’s Asia Security Initiative: ANU-YONSEI Cooperation Professor John Ravenhill and Professor William Tow are leading an ANU component of the MacArthur Foundation's Asia Security Initiative (ASI) which includes a substantial 'Korean dimension'. Two renowned Korean scholars from Yonsei University- Professor Cheng Min Lee and Associate Professor Ajin Choi - are affiliated with this project which will be carried out over a 3-year time frame: late 2009 to early 2012. The project will involve many of the Asia-Pacific region's best security analysts. As an adjunct to this project, Yonsei University and the ANU plan to convene a special two-day workshop in early November 2010 involving 5-7 academics from each country with expertise in regional and international security politics. This event is designed to intensify networks between their two countries for the joint study of contemporary international security issues. The idea leading to this initiative was originally suggested by South Korea's Ambassador to Australia, the Hon. Woo-song Kim. ANU's Korean Institute is also providing financial and logistical support for this workshop. |
