The Korea Institute
ANU COLLEGE OF ASIA AND THE PACIFIC |
Letter from the Vice-Chancellor and President of the ANU for the Launch of the Korea InstituteFor the last 50 years ANU has been a national leader in research and education on Korea. We are delighted to announce the establishment of the ANU Korea Institute. I believe that now is the time to develop deeper intellectual engagement and understanding of Australia's and Korea's common interests and to promote opportunities for active cooperation and partnership in economic, scientific and political affairs based on developing knowledge of the institutional, cultural and social realities in each country. The importance of the Australia-Korea partnership needs to be understood by policy makers, business and the general public in both countries, because of both countries' shared interests in the region's prosperity, peace and stability. To better focus the University's committment to expanding and enhancing its research and teaching on Korea, I am pleased that we are launching a single university-wide Korea Institute whose purpose will be to foster a closer relationship between Australia and Korea through education, research and dialogue. Our aim is to establish a world class institute in Australia dedicated to a comprehensive understanding of the economic, political, cultural, social and scientific affairs of Korea. I look forward to wide participation in the work of the ANU Korea Institute.
